Less is very often more......

The best things in life are free......or at least pretty cheap! ........If you have the time to enjoy them!
(Another similar quote we like: "The Best things in life aren't things!)

Would you like to work less and have more time for yourself and family?

How can we best explain our philosophy to you in practice.........?

Have you ever observed your kids, or do you remember when you were a kid yourself, having more fun playing with the cardboard box the toy came in, than with the expensive toy itself?

Another example:
Would you like to sit and enjoy the view from the top of your local hill, a glass of chilled white wine in your hand, on a beautiful, still, summer evening with someone you love…..?

.......Or, would you rather be pushing through the throng of sweaty tourists to get to the railings on the viewing gallery of the Empire State building in New York, after having queued for over an hour in the heat and humidity, and paid a small fortune to get in?

(Ed: Having done both, I can say without doubt I'd prefer to do the first one......which I do as often as I can!)

A final example:

You own a brand new car, but worry that it will get knocked or scratched every time you park it in the supermarket car park? The payments are over £275 a month, and you have to wash it by hand every weekend because car washes just don't get it clean enough and might damage it….. .

......Or, would you rather have money in the bank and a 5 year old, tidy and reliable motor you bough for cash? If it gets knocked or scratched it's not the end of the world, and it costs you next to nothing in depreciation. After all, who needs to spend thousands a year on a driveway ornament, when you only run around locally and to work most of the time? If you’re going anywhere special you can always rent a nice new car.

Now you may think these are silly examples, and probably you can think of many better ones, but we hope you can begin to see the general drift of our philosophy here at Live on Less!

" Less is very often more. I have found time and time again in my own life, that there is very often an unforeseen downside to the things we dream of, but frequently surprising upsides to the more mundane and seemingly less desirable. Too often we base our decisions on how we think others will see us, and not on any real benefits to ourselves. When you stop and think about it, isn’t that just crazy?" Bob Field (Ed).

Living on less doesn’t mean that you have to stop living, but it does mean you have more choices; you don’t have to follow the herd.
The old saying "what I've never had, I won't miss" is so true. Remember, your great, great grandfather almost certainly lived all his life in a house with no hot water, no central heating, no electric lighting, and probably no toilet or bathroom indoors either. Was he bitter and miserable with his lot all his life? We suspect not. However, if from tomorrow you had to lead his life, for the rest of your life, we suspect you might be a little unhappy and miss your modern gadgets and luxuries!

To some extent we all face a similar psychological problem when we decide to Live on Less. However, this site can provide you with the strategies and support every week that will enable you to overcome any feelings of "missing out" on anything.

For reasons that we will set out every week in our news and comment section, and will become clear to you as you subscribe, we believe the future will quite probably be less prosperous for very many of us in the UK currently aged under 55 or so. Therefore, the mindset and strategies we promote in Live on Less will increasingly become vital "life skills", and protection for you from the economic shocks that the future may well hold.

This is not simply "doom and gloom mongering", but the logical product of a series of unstoppable world trends that are already well established. You will learn to recognise the impact and significance of these trends in your own life as you subscribe.

At Live on Less we believe in making the very best of the future, and promoting positive and life enhancing strategies, so don’t get the idea that it’s by any means all “doom and gloom”. However, if we bury our heads in the sand, don’t face the facts, or take steps now, many of us face a bleak future and old age.
